And the diagnosis is?........

Well, we sure enjoyed our Christmas vacation, thank you to all the family that helped make that possible for us. Now we are back home, and settling in. Getting back to doctors appointments, daily life, and odds and ends.
Chris has finally gotten a diagnosis of his sleeping disorder, its is called Idiopathic Hypersomnolence, here is the definition:
Idiopathic Hypersomnolence is a sleep disorder of central nervous system origin characterized by prolonged nocturnal sleep and periods of daytime drowsiness. Affected individuals experience difficulty with awakening in the morning and may have associated sleep drunkenness, automatic behaviors, and memory disturbances.
Idiopathic hypersomnolence is listed as a "rare disease" by the Office of Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This means that Idiopathic hypersomnolence, or a subtype of Idiopathic hypersomnolence, affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.
Most of the time the condition is contracted from a viral infection lasting for a long period of time, Chris had such a thing while he was in boot camp. But because it was so long before this condition was diagnosed there is no way to determine if in fact that illness was the exact cause of the condition. They are going to start him on "alertness" med's, and we still do not know what this will mean as far as his Naval career, we are just glad that we finally know what the disease is and how we can treat it. Other than that, nothing new on our front. Here is some pictures of our trip, christmas, and some other misc. pictures of Jonathan. Enjoy!
